Come to Italy to reassess, rejuvenate, and recenter. Immerse yourself in a Pilates-centered wellness retreat, far removed from the stress of daily life.

This retreat is more than just a holiday. It is a journey to wellness where you will feel a deeper sense of connectedness to yourself and the world around you. This 100s to Happiness Retreat is designed around the Pilates Method of integrated movement. You will learn to use a mindful method called Meditative Movement Practice that helps to recenter when bad habits negatively affect movements. These principles and foundation movements will be integrated to your daily life... from getting out of bed, to preparing a meal, to shopping in the market. It’s all about being present when you move as you will travel to various inspiring Italian hill towns where Umbrian and Tuscan culinary, cultural and artistic experiences await.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Under the guidance of Lauren, you will take your Pilates journey in a classic Umbrian villa and in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Each morning, your day will begin with an uplifting Pilates mat class that will tone your core and bring balance to your body. This classical conditioning regime emphasizes core muscle strength to improve posture, reduce back pain, increase muscle tone and flexibility, deepen breathing patterns, enhance body awareness, and increase efficiency of movement. Pilate’s props will be provided to support your personal movement practice during mat class. Also included is a one-day class at a local Pilates studio where you will have an opportunity to use equipment and share experiences with local Pilate’s experts.

This retreat is open to individuals at all levels of Pilates. Because the group is small (a maximum of 14 participants) Lauren will be available for individual attention and advice. By the end of the retreat, you will feel fit and toned, mentally centered, relaxed, and ready to return home, rebalanced and full of positive energy and joy. When you return home, you can continue your personal journey by taking the 100s to Happiness Challenge, a free downloadable app through which you can maintain your momentum toward healthy movement practice.

A BEAUTIFUL VENUE
The setting for the Italy Pilates Retreat with Lauren McClerkin is an 18th century countryside casale nestled along the border of Tuscany and Umbria. Get up early and watch the morning sun break through the swirling mist in the valley, enjoy a fresh, healthy breakfast, then join Lauren for your morning session of Pilates in a beautiful studio space with floor to ceiling windows. Each evening, gather together with fellow travelers for a sip of vino as the sun sets behind the Tuscan hills. Of course there is also an in-house chef, lovely sleeping rooms (all private with ensuite baths), comfy gathering areas (both inside and out) and nearby lanes and pathways for morning or evening walks.

Incorporated into Lauren's comprehensive Pilates retreat are carefully selected side trips and hands-on experiences. From evocative Orvieto, layered in 3,000 years of ancient history to Tuscany's charming Bagno Vignoni with its thermal pools and springs, you'll be visiting some of the Italy's most beautiful hilltop villages. ITINERARY & CLASS SCHEDULE

DAY 1 (Thursday, May 17) ARRIVAL
Benvenuti a Italia! Our group rendezvous point will be Rome Fiumicino Airport. Then sit back and relax as you are transported by private transport service to the Italian countryside and your beautiful accommodations along the border of Tuscany and Umbria. After check-in, you'll have the opportunity to explore your surroundings and studio space before taking part in an orientation and aperitivo hour with Lauren. Then it's time for a delicious, regional-style dinner served up by our in-house, Tuscan chef.

  • 2:00 - 5:00: Check in and relax
  • 5:00 - 6:30: Orientation: Each participant will receive a manual that contains the details of our program with plenty of room to make notes of ideas to take home.

DAY 2 (Friday, May 18) CLASS & CITTA DELLA PIEVE

  • 7:30 - 8:45: Breakfast
  • 9:00 - 11:30: Pilates session that begins with meditation followed by instruction. During each daily session, Lauren will guide you through two essential components: understanding of the Pilates Principles and practice of meditative movement in mat class. Each day, you will focus on one of the Six Principles espoused by Joseph Pilates as you progress through a program of exercises designed to strengthen your core and sustain your well-being.

  • 2:00 - 3:00: Lesson with Lauren: Meditation and Journaling
  • 3:30: This afternoon you’ll be transported, via our private drivers, to the medieval hill town of Città della Pieve, with its fabulous, winding alleyways and spectacular views. We begin our visit with Alessandro, a local saffron expert, who will share with you the benefits and beauty of cultivating and cooking with saffron. After all, Città della Pieve is famous for its crocus fields and saffron. Then you’ll enjoy time on your own to explore and shop, before joining up with the rest of the group for onsite journaling with Lauren.

  • 3:30: Today you’re heading to gorgeous Orvieto, a medieval hill town layered in 3,000 years of history. First stop is the historic center of town where you'll find one of Italy’s most beautiful cathedrals. From here you'll have an opportunity to explore the town's beautifully preserved alleyways, browse the local shops (Orvieto is famous for its hand-painted ceramics and fine lace) or visit one of the art-filled museums before joining back up with the rest of the group for onsite journaling with Lauren.

  • 3:30: This afternoon you’re off to the Tuscan town of Sarteano, where you’ll enjoy a visit to one of the most evocative Etruscan necropoli in Italy, followed by a visit to the historic town itself. Here you can explore on your own, shop, or even tour the town’s medieval castle before joining back up with the rest of the group for onsite journaling with Lauren.

Here you can explore on your own, pay a visit the town’s thermal pool (extra/optional) or walk a nearby trail for spectacular views and to soak your feet in a countryside thermal pool (frequented by locals).

More About Lauren McClerkin
From Chapel Hill, NC, Lauren has been a certified Pilates Instructor since 2008, graduating from The Pilates Center of Boulder's Advanced Training Program as well as the Masters Program in Boulder, CO. Her goal is to inspire healthier habits through movement. She is the founder of the 100s to Happiness Pilates Challenge that is designed to help share the many health benefits Pilates has to offer. Lauren’s passion for helping others find their strengths is what led her down this path. She is a devoted mother to five beautiful children. Active in the community, Lauren is striving to build awareness around the health concerns in our society. Pilates changed her life and she has made it her mission to spread the light it has given her.
